Looking Ahead to the 2016 OTPL Season

With the new season just about to start, it's time we talked aspirations for the year ahead. After a difficult season last year, where we had to contend with the loss of big players, and also the integration of a practically new defence, there is every reason to be optimistic about our fortunes this time round.

The new defensive guard of Ronan, Pete, Spencer, and Rory were some our best, and most consistent performers last season, gaining strength as a defensive unit with every game. I think this year we have every reason to be bullish about how we approach any game, considering the personnel we have to call upon. Encouraging performances from Romano at the recent tournament, and Jeremy at the tail end of last season also give reasons to be positive. A swift return to action from recent father Dapper Dan would be a great boost, too. I hope and expect that clean sheets will be a more common occurrence this season anyway.

Further up the pitch, the acquisition of Luis “Queso” seems a shrewd one, and I expect us to score more goals as a result. We've been crying out for a target man up front for the last two seasons, and I think he'll bring an extra dimension to our attack. Latecomers last season have also had time to adjust to the unique style of play here, and are growing in stature with each game.

I'm excited about the new season, and while remaining realistic, I do expect more goals, more clean sheets, and an improvement in league position. We're a capable team, and it’s time we started having a bit more belief in ourselves. ‘Mon the Shane!
