We racked up some miles in a busy October in which we travelled around Taiwan competing on three fronts.
We kicked off the month with a short hop over to Penghu Island to participate in the prestigious Penguin cup. A five-man squad of Danny, Zach, Jamie, Dan and Andy made short work of the opposition culminating in a 5-1 victory in the final. Cue jubilant scenes of celebration as the trophy was brought back to sit proudly behind the bar in Aye Taipei.

We spent the next Saturday evening picking up some tips for Thursdays, watching an AFC Futsal qualifier between Japan and Australia. With Lukas smuggling in a can of Asahi via his knee support, Japan ran out 4-0 winners.

We followed this with a league game against Daan at Sunshine, a game with important ramifications for both sides. A freak goal and a baffling penalty decision put us 2-0 down, before Daan added another on the counter as we chased the game. Despite an impressive fight-back including goals from Lukas and Jamie, we couldn’t find the equaliser and lost the game 3-2.
At the same time as the Daan game, we sent a team to the Ocean Cup in Keelung. The lads lost the first game but drew the second, winning on penalties. A mad rush then ensued with lads at the Daan game heading straight to Keelung in time for the third group game. We needed a big win and results to go our way to make it into the knock-outs. We did our part with a 6-1 win but the other team spoiled the party with a 1-1 draw to send us home. The day was still young though, and Luke was keen to raise our spirits with the “second-best club sandwich in Taipei” (spoiler alert – it was rubbish), before we headed to Aye Taipei for some more beer and grub.

Our next game came against league-leaders B52 who were keen to maintain their 100% record this season. We put in an excellent performance against strong opposition and could’ve been winning comfortably before they scored two goals in the second half. A gutting result given our performance but a great response after the Daan loss.
We now head to Vietnam to take part in the Saigon Sevens tournament, entering an over-35’s and an open team. Follow us on Instagram for updates!
We look forward to another busy month in November starting with a cup game against Vikings, and then two big games against Eagles and JFC in the league.
