The Winners. A Roundup of Awards Night 2023

Shane looked back on a season full of positives as awards were dished out at Aye Taipei.

The team reflected on some of the highlights of the past 12 months, which included some memorable victories, eventful tours and plenty of laughs.

The awards ceremony began with the presentation of the Aye Taipei Banger of the Season, which honours the best goal of the season and comes with a prize of a packet of bangers. A tightly contested vote between Lukas and Blake resulted in the former bringing home the sausages for his volley vs. B53.

We then moved onto the Golden Boot. Zach Paruch picked up his fifth golden boot for another prolific season in front of goal. With some vital goals around the halfway point in the season, including a last minute equaliser against Mambas, and a hat-trick against Triangle, Zach's importance to the team continues to be highlighted.

Next was our Rising Star award, given to the signing of the season. A shortlist with an embarrassment of riches, picking a winner was always going to be a tricky task. Nonetheless, Jose emerged victorious and fully deserves his award for the impact he has made this season. His workrate, tenacity and versatility are a huge asset for the team.

The Clubman of the Year was awarded to the person who has gone above and beyond for the benefit of the club. The man behind our kickabouts, as well as organising three tours in a season, there could be only one winner - Danny Miller. The lads all appreciate the work he does behind the scenes, and we'd be a lesser team without him. Thanks for your hard work, Danny!

Following this, we announced our MVP. The player of the season. Dan Engel smashed the voting and picked up the award in his debut season. His performances alongside defensive partner Danny have ensured we have the best defensive record in the league and give us such a strong foundation to build on.

Last but not least, the DRA. This is awarded to somebody who has made the biggest fool of themselves during the season. After weeks of lobbying and campaigning, the much anticipated award was given to Dan Swift. Well-earned due to his various shenanigans and exploits on his return to Taiwan, Dan writes himself into Shane folklore by picking up the coveted award.

Cheers to all the lads for their efforts in 22/23, we look forward to the new season starting May 7th!
